Below I show you how to backup Aweber for all your lists and messages, I have also shown some snapshots to demonstrate the easy steps to backup Aweber.

Step One

1) Login to Aweber and click on ‘Create and Manage Lists’

Step Two

2) Then click on the button ‘Back Up & Export All Active Lists’

 Step Three

3) Now Aweber is nearly ready to start your backup, they need your email to inform you once it is complete. Enter your email then click the Create Backup to start the backup.

It does not take long to complete but the time varies on how big your list is and how busy Aweber is at the time. Now wait to receive the email notification. Please note your screen shot may look slightly different if this is the first time you are doing this,  but just enter your email and click create.

Step Four

4) Once you have received an email from Aweber to notify you that it is complete, log back in. Click on ‘Create and Manage Lists’ as per image 1. Now you will see a screen like below, click on the blue button to download to your computer.

Keep your backup in a safe place and start a regular routine to backup Aweber.  You never know when you will need it.

Now, let me point out that I’m no guru and I don’t want to be labeled as one. However, over the years I’ve been in a couple of Network Marking companies and a few Internet Marketing companies to make money online, so I do have some experience and I have met a lot of successful and unsuccessful people along the way.

Now we all know that there are people who want everything on autopilot and they are never prepared to apply focused dedication, they then wonder why they are not succeeding and are failing to make money online.

They will never admit it to you, though they will always be saying how much effort they are committing but when you dig deeper they can give you no facts. They are always blaming others or the opportunity they are involved in.

But put these type of people to the side and let’s focus on the people who do put the effort in, are committed and do apply the time that’s needed. Unfortunately there is still a large amount of dedicated individuals who are spending so much time trying to make money online but are still stuck in the trench’s.

Why You Are Failing To Make Money Online

So here is the reason why most individuals are still struggling. They are over complicating things but it’s not their fault, they are just following what they were told to do and taking action on it. They cannot see that they are being asked to do too much and that the result is that they are overlooking the basic concepts of what is initially involved with making money online.

When a dedicated newbie joins an opportunity, all they want to do is celebrate the day they make their first sale or even their first lead. That day can turn to weeks, months and ultimately failure. All because they were concentrating their efforts by tinkering with things that ultimately takes them away from marketing their product or service.

If you are not marketing then you are not selling. Fact.

Most people these days are spending far too much time either trying to become a web designer or trying to be the guru, the authority before they have even learnt to walk.

Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of what you are taught that is totally valid but it’s not what you should be concentrating.  You need to master the basics first.

To make money online you need a system that takes care of all the web design stuff. Your ultimate goal when you start out is marketing, yes there is always a little bit of setting up but after the first day or two you want to be driving as much traffic to your sales page / squeeze page as possible. You want to start seeing results, you want to start seeing those first sales coming in, and you want to have a taste of having your first $1000 day. When that happens that is going to give you such a buzz that nothing is going to stop you doing it again and again.

When it happens to you will be naturally attracting people to your business, they will feel the energy and passion coming from you and know that you are genuine and not just trying to be a guru who’s pretending they make money online.

So what next:

1.     Find a system that is already set up for you.

2.     Start marketing and drive traffic to the sales pages they give you.

3.     Start generating leads.

4.     Make some sales and have your first $1000 day

5.     Go back to step 2 and enjoy.

Only once you have grasped the basics and have earned some credibility should you then consider tweaking things. It is then time to look at what is working and gradually scaling the growth of your business.

I used to have an eBay business myself and I got a tremendous amount of enjoyment out of it. I run my eBay business part time in the hours that suited me so I know why having an online business is so attractive. Having a eBay business has also taught me a lot and gave me a lot of knowledge that has helped me with my current online business.

When I started an eBay business I remember that it was so easy to start up and get going. I used to sell address labels as my niche. I used to import a pallet load of labels from China then simply advertise them on my eBay shop then simply send them out in a jiffy bag as sales came in. I make it sound like that running an eBay business is simple and it is. Don’t get me wrong in the early days you will be pulling your hair out to do the simplest of task but once you start to understand the process a bit more and build a system then you will find that running an eBay business is relatively easy. Setting up a system is one of the biggest things I learned and brought with me to my current online business.

7 Steps To Starting An eBay Business

Below is some of the things you need to do and take into account if you are thinking of starting an eBay business.

The first thing you need to know is how eBay work so if you are a total newbie jump in the deep end and go and purchase something, get to know how it works. Then once you have done that a few times dig out a few things from the garage or attic and try a bit of selling. This is the very first foundation step for you starting an eBay business.

The next thing is to find a niche that you would like to sell in. Now remember don’t go for the the most popular items like DVD’s or computer games for your eBay business, there is far to much competition, really narrow your niche down so the demand is still strong but the competition is a lot lower. The third thing is find a supplier. I imported from China and found my supplier through Alibaba.com. Remember to look for suppliers that have at least 3 years experience and don’t just go for the first one you find try 3 or 4 and pay to have them send you samples to try. You want to ensure that your eBay business is selling items that the customers believe and trust in, so quality is important.

Your eBay business obviously needs to be profitable so the next step is to understand your figures. How much is your wholesaler charging you, how much will you sell your items for, how much is all your shipment, don’t forget VAT or your Ebay & Paypal costs. I used to use a tool TeraPeak that gives market data on all eBay sales made, using this you can see who is the top competition in your niche is and how much you should be selling your items for.

Now when it comes to listing your item you want to give your customer all the information they need. Your eBay listing needs to be full of detail be very clear and to the point and show lots of pictures. Put yourself in their position, what do you like to see when you are buying things online.

Now appearance can account for a lot and increase your overall sales, at the end of the day you are marketing your eBay Business and it is no difference than a retail shop on the high street. Get a professional template made for your listings, advertise ways that customers can contact you, put up a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ page. Throwing up a few pictures and a bit of text can work in the beginning but as soon as you get the time then pimp up your shop. You will get a lot more customers coming through the door.

You continually want to analyze what is working and what is not, just buy changing a small thing like the colour in your listing can make a huge difference in your sales. As the Internet becomes the media outlet of choice for increasingly large numbers of people, websites are becoming larger and larger, increasingly difficult for users to navigate without a guide. The giant search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing are unable to index websites effectively unless these websites have maps. A growing number of users are using their mobile phones to access the Internet. These users don’t have spare minutes to waste to surf the Internet until they find what they need. They need to access web pages quickly, and they may be unable to do so without targeted search engine results. sitemaps created in HTML (hypertext markup language) can be an adequate resource for web surfers looking to locate a particular page or directory on a website.

Making a Sitemap

In the early days of the Internet, web designers generated sitemaps by hand. These days, technology has automated that task. Web producers have a choice between generating a sitemap themselves through the software they use to create the site or to use an external service like Google Sitemap Generator once the site has been uploaded. These days, the vast majority of web designers choose the second option.

Dreamweaver sitemaps

Adobe’s Dreamweaver is one of the most widely used web development applications. sitemap indexing was a Dreamweaver featured function up through the 2008 release of Dreamweaver CS4. The popularity of web-based site indexing technologies has superseded Dreamweaver’s proprietary sitemapping function although that functionality may still be useful, particularly for designers who want a visual guide to the hierarchical relationship between website pages for their own internal use.

While the sitemap function is no longer supported by Adobe, it can be reactivated by tweaking Dreamweaver preferences with a text editing application.

Google Sitemaps

In 2005, Google introduced a web application called Sitemaps intended to facilitate web creators in publishing lists of links from across their sites. Google Sitemaps use a programming language called
XML (extensible markup language.) XML sitemaps are the sitemaps preferred by the Worldwide Web’s spiders, bots and other indexing agents. The Google Sitemap protocol has generated wide support from the Internet community, including endorsements from MSN, Yahoo, IBM, Ask.com and the state governments of Arizona, California, Utah and Virginia.

Google allows webmasters to upload and update sitemaps directly. Simply set your browser to http://www.xml-sitemaps.com, enter your website’s full URL and click the tab that begins the sitemap generation process. The amount of time it will take to generate the sitemap will depend upon how many web pages the site contains. A website with complex architecture may take a very long time. Once the sitemap is complete, users are forwarded to the finished sitemaps page where they can review the products. The application will produce two sitemaps: an HTML sitemap and an uncompressed XML sitemap.

If webmasters are satisfied with the results, they can download the finished sitemaps and then upload them manually to their own servers. In order to assist search engines in finding these sitemaps, webmasters using http://www.xml-sitemaps.com are advised to submit their websites manually to website directories.

• Google: To submit a website to Google, log on to http://www.google.com/webmasters, create a Google webmasters account and follow the instructions. You will be submitting the XML sitemap.

• Yahoo: To submit a website to Yahoo, log on to http://www.sitexplorer.search.yahoo.com, create a Yahoo! Site Explorer account and follow the instructions. You will be submitting the XML sitemap.

• Bing: To submit a website to Yahoo, log on to http://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster, create a Bing Webmaster Tools account and follow the instructions. You will be submitting the XML sitemap.

WordPress Google XML Sitemap

The content management system WordPress offers an excellent free plugin called Google XML Sitemap that facilitates the creation of Google sitemaps by updating the Google algorithm whenever changes are made to a website’s internal architecture. It’s available through the WordPress dashboard.

Web developers initially accessing the software will need to activate the option that allows them to build the website for the first time. Then, depending upon how hands on they would like to be, webmasters can customize the subsequent generation of sitemaps in various ways:

• Additional Pages: Allows webmasters to add the URLs of blog sub-pages and sub-directories to sitemaps.

• Sitemap Content: Allows webmasters to specify website sections they want to showcase.

• Excluded items: Allows webmasters to specify website sections they don’t want to include in search engine results.

• Priorities and Frequencies: Allows webmasters to assign relative importance to pages search engines index, and to specify how often they want search engines’ automated agents to crawl their pages.

The tool also allows webmasters to retain the option of manually updating their sitemaps if that’s what they prefer.

The WordPress Google XML Sitemap plugin works most effectively when it’s used in conjunction with Google’s own suite of webmaster tools. Webmasters are also advised to obtain Yahoo application IDs in order to keep Yahoo informed of blog changes.

Along your journey in business you will get to see a lot of people bragging how they earn $10,000 , $20,000 a month.  A lot of the time this is true, but what they don’t tell you is that they are spending 80% of that in paid advertising, so in reality they are earning $2,000, $4,000 per month.

Paid advertising is a great strategy and all the top performers use it however you need to watch out as paid advertising can also burn you if you do not get it right. You really need to keep track of all your numbers and monitor your advertising closely. You need to also test your paid advertising by making slight changes; this could be a change in the colour, change to a headline or repositioning to a different part of the page.

Free Advertising can also be powerful and if you master it, it can be very rewarding. I know a few people who have mastered this strategy and they swear by it, but they did not work it out overnight. Forms of free marketing are SEO, Blogging, Facebook, Twitter and other social website. Some will also say that the disadvantage of Free Advertising is that it can be slow to implement and slow to see any effect at first.

One of the biggest underestimations newbies make is the sheer amount of marketing they need to do whether it is Paid Advertising or Free Advertising. To expect great results from just a handful of blogs or Facebook posts is setting your hopes a bit high. You need to be consistent with both Paid Advertising and Free Advertising strategies to see results, then when you see something working scale it up.

Paid Advertising Strategies

Solo’s – This is when you find someone else with a large list of prospects in your niche and you pay them to send out a broadcast email on your behalf with your links to generate you leads. The paid advertising cost for this method is normally set for a guaranteed amount of clicks or visits to your site.

Banners – This is where you find a popular website in your niche and you pay the owner to place a graphic that, when clicked will lead through to your opt in page. If the prospect leaves their email in your web form you have generated another lead. The Paid Advertising cost for this method is normally set for a period of time such as a month to show your banner, however there are other methods like paying for a number of impressions (the amount of times your banner is shown).

PPC – Pay Per Click is what it says; the Paid Advertising company charges you an agreed amount for every time your ad is clicked. Normally the higher the price you agree to pay per click the more chances your ad will have of being shown and the more clicks you can expect. You can set daily limits to protect you budget.

Paid Advertising or Free Advertising

The upshot regarding Paid Advertising or Free Advertising is to try both. Paid Advertising can cost a huge amount, but if you start off small and master it, it can turn out to be a positive leverage. Again, Free Advertising can be great if you have a low budget, but over time when you have mastered it can work wonders.  However, if speed is your aim then Paid Advertising is the way to go.

Out of all the Dragons James Caan has always appealed to me over the rest and I think it is down to the way he came across; very professional, well spoken and sharp with his numbers as well as straight to the point.

James Caan – The Real Deal

James had an interesting up bringing with a start in business re-selling leather jackets to friends that he had purchased at wholesale rates via his dad’s business. I found James Caan’s autobiography - The Real Deal a really good book and recommend you give it a read.

I asked James Caan if he had ever had a mentor in is life and if so what he thought the qualities of a mentor should be.

He had had a few mentors but he always thought that the best mentor he had ever had was his dad. The reason behind this he said, and the main thing that stood out for him, was that a lot of so called mentors just tell you what you want hear; which is great for encouragement if you are going down the right path but if you are on the wrong one you need someone to put you straight and point you in the right direction.

James Caan said his dad told it as it was and was very straight with him. If James was wasting his time his dad would not BS around but instead let him have it. There was no misunderstanding to have, James knew exactly where his dad was coming from and knew what was needed from him.

His dad would ask open question as it was a great way to identify James Caans real needs, values and passions. It was also a great way to get James Caan to think through situations themselves and draw out the consequences of the various choices or courses of action he could take. During these conversations, his dad shared his wisdom, without making any decisions for James.

James Caan’s Mentor Had Credibility

As well as being very firm and to the point, James Caan’s dad was a perfect example of a good mentor as he had credibility as a business man. James’ dad had worked in business for many years and knew what it was like to hit major struggles and get over them. His dad had travelled from Lahore, Pakistan to England looking for work to support his family.  He setup working in the rag trade in Brick Lane, East London. He was doing well but then it all went up in flames when the family home caught fire destroying everything and the business too. His father had to start from scratch like any true entrepreneur would do.

James Caan did not realize it at the time but working with his dad in the early days even though he did not want to be in the rag trade taught him a lot. You see sometimes it’s just a matter of seeing your mentor in action. So just following in the footsteps of a successful mentor can rub off with positive results.

One of the benefits of James Caan got from working with his dad is that he often provided James with a fresh perspective on an issue. As a mentor he had the clarity of distance from an issue or problem that he could provide objective feedback to James Caan. He was also able to hold up a ‘mirror’ to James as an example, let him see what his behavior looked like to himself and others.

Quite rightly so all people want is more lead generation for their business, without leads your business is going to dry up fast, so finding good quality leads is your mission. It’s such a popular topic that I’m regularly getting asked by people in my team “How do I get more leads?” as well as my inbox is always getting spammed with “Try our lead generation system, it’s the best on the planet”.

Lead Generation Confusion

Before I go into the steps about lead generation lets first clear up some confusion. A lead is not someone that has liked you or is a friend in Facebook, also a lead is not someone that is following you on Twitter. Don’t get me wrong you can get very good lead generation from Facebook and Twitter it’s just at that stage in the process they are not classed as a lead.

The first step of lead generation is to get prospects on your list. You may have heard “It’s all in the list” and this is so true. To get prospects onto your list, you would typically have a web form on your website, your prospects would complete this by entering their name and email. In return they would receive something of value, this could be a free eBook, top tips video or even a webinar. This is lead generation, you are offering a free gift in return for their email.  The lead now gets added to your list.

You also don’t want to be making a list for someone else, you want to be collecting your own list as part of your lead generation efforts and you can do this by using a tool called Aweber. If you are not collecting your own list and using the tools given by a company you are marketing for, then you don’t have a list, they own the list. This is a very important part of your lead generation.

Now lead generation is great, but if you are getting the wrong type of leads then you are wasting your time and efforts. You need good targeted leads, so remember when you are advertising your site you need to be in the eyes of a targeted prospect and not broadly. If you require lead generation in the weight loss sector then you would narrow that niche down to women as more women want to lose weight than men. To target it even better you would narrow that down to mums that want to lose weight after giving birth. The more clearly you define your niche the better.

Get an image in your head of what an ideal prospect would look like because this is how you really crank up your lead generation. Once you can see this, ask yourself where would they hang out, what websites would they visit, what magazines would they read, what is the top thing they would do on a regular basis. Now you know this you need to get your marketing material in front of them. This could be placing a banner up on a targeted website or placing an ad in a magazine.

Lead Generation Is Not The Goal

Lead generation though is not your goal, conversions are. You need to convert your list into sales and to do this you need to nurture that list. With the help of Aweber you want to be sending your list regular automated emails, giving them the best up to date information, valuable content and your latest offers. You want to be giving a very clear and to the point Call To Action (CTA). Direct your list back to your site where they can find even more information about your product as well as make a sale.

It took Maria a couple of long days to unpack everything, but over those days when our lives were coming out the boxes, she would occasionally pop into my office to show me a photo, or a record (yes a real vinyl record) or something that we’d bought on one of our holidays.  I have to say it was pretty cool seeing the past decade coming out of the boxes and coming into our lives again.

And you may ask where this is going, apart from down memory lane.  Well, the interesting point Maria made was after going through photos for a couple of hours.  She said to me, almost a little sadly that when she looked through my photos before we had met she could see by them the type of person that I was because they usually showed me skydiving, on camping trips and generally messing around with friends.  Yet when she had looked at her own life in photos she said it was pretty hard to distinguish who she was.  Her photos were normally posed, quite standard and with no real impression of what she was like or what she liked doing.

We chatted about this and she made a fairly good point, in as much as she wanted the next decade of photos to show her living life, achieving things and make it clear who she was.  It’s made her think about where she’s going in life and what does she want from it.

It’s a question that we should all ask on a regular basis. It’s easy to get caught in a routine or a comfort zone. Life become easier if we have a job that we’ve done for a while; we know what we’re doing, have a network of work friends and generally we don’t get stretched too far.  Sound familiar?  But you have to ask the question, is this really you, would your life in photos reflect who you are and where you’re going and more importantly what achievements would it show?  It can be quite difficult to really take a hard look at your life and admit that maybe you’ve become complacent. It can be even more difficult to take the next step to come out of your comfort zone and feel that adrenaline and fear and excitement again, like you did when you were starting out. When did you stop learning?

After you’ve read this blog, maybe have a look through your photos. What does your life up until now look like. Could someone looking at them see who you are?  Do they show what you’ve done during your life?  If you were now ten years along, what do you want your photos to show, what do you want to achieve?  Maybe now is the time to have that review of what you want to achieve in your life.
